Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh is entreating posted medical doctors as well as health workers to sacrifice a bit to help government realize the objective of at least two medical doctors in every district in the country.
The Minister made the appeal during a working visit to the Upper East and North East regions to ensure newly posted doctors report to and remain at their assigned duty stations.
The tour is part of government’s broader strategy to address longstanding challenges with doctor deployment, particularly in underserved and rural areas where access to healthcare professionals remains limited.
During the visit, the Minister engaged Regional, Municipal and District Chief Executives, as well as health workers, to mobilize institutional and community support for the doctors.
‘‘In Bono East, we have 17 people who have reported, in North East only 2 people who have reported, in Oti we have 6 people who have reported, in Savannah we have 7 people who have reported, in Upper East 7 people have reported but only 5 have fully settled. Upper West 6 people have reported and Western North 11 people have reported,” he said.
According to Mr Akandoh, “If this continues, you will realise that at least we will have not less than 2 medical doctors in every district. As we speak, we have districts without doctors. How can we live in a country like this? So while Government is doing its best, please with the greatest of respect let’s also sacrifice a bit.’’
