Parliament has extended its condolences to the immediate family of the late and former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings who died on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
In a statement issued on October 23, 2o25, Parliament said it is saddened by the death of Ghana’s first female Presidential candidate.
The statement added that the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Leaders and members of the House consoles with the family in this difficult moment.
“Parliament extends its deepest condolences to the immediate family and the general citizenry,” the statement noted.
Parliament euologised the former First Lady noting that “her life of service and dedication to our nation will remain a guiding light for generations to come.”
“She was passionate in her support of women and children especially girl education. She also made immense contributions in health, and community development, and championed the rights and welfare of the vulnerable. Her warmth and commitment to national service will be remembered with profound respect and gratitude,” the House remarked.
In the wake of the shocking news of her passing and in recognition of her remarkable contributions to Ghana, and as a mark of respect to her memory, Parliament abruptly adjourned its sitting on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
This gesture reflects Parliament’s collective mourning and deep appreciation of her legacy of service, courage, and leadership.
Meanwhile, the family of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has requested for privacy to mourn their beloved.
At a brief press conference at the residence of the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings in Ridge, Accra, the family head announced that further notices about the burial Ghana’s First female presidential candidate will be announced by the President.
He added that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has also been informed accordingly of the passing of the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The family informed His Excellency the President and subsequently informed the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene. His Excellency the President has caused a statement to be made confirming Nana Konadu’s death.
“At this stage, the family is obviously in mourning and we will crave your indulgence to give us some privacy. All further notices will be relayed by the government,” the family head stated.
Mrs Rawlings died on Thursday morning, October 23, 2025, after a short illness. She was 76 years old.
