Minister of Food and Agricultire, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has described high prices of foodstuff as artificial and unprecedented.

He has called on all Ghanaians to be concerned about what he described as excessive profiteering by retailers.

According to the minister, prices of food are not supposed to be that high when government policies are working on the farms.

Addressing some farmers at Dambai in the Oti Region, the minister reemphasised that the escalating prices has become a worry to government.

“We’ve been worried about this escalating prices and we are saying that this escalation is not due to shortage in producing areas.

“That’s for me the message that I want to give and the figures in this demonstration clearly demonstrate that. Everybody in Ghana should be worried because these prices are unprecedented because we haven’t seen such increase in price when government policies are working on the farms,” he said.
