Staff of the Ho Nurses Training College (NTC) are demanding the return of some of its infrastructural facilities given to the University of Health and Allied Sciences over a decade ago.

In 2012, when the University of Health and Allied Sciences was established, government directed that some buildings belonging to Ho NTC be used as temporary incubatory facilities.

According to the aggrieved staff of the Ho Nurses Training College, it was agreed that these facilities would be handed back to the College once UHAS moved to its permanent sites.

But 14-years on, the facilities are still occupied and managed by UHAS.

“These properties were originally built to support the effective functioning of the College and to provide accommodation and teaching space for staff and students,” James Awudi, a staff at the College told reporters.

“The properties include staff flats which have now been converted into students’ hostels by UHAS, lecture halls, three-bedroom self-contained bungalows meant for the principal, offices for staff and a library,” he added.

He explained that the continuous holding of these facilities by UHAS is creating serious challenges for the College.

“Whilst we, the rightful owners of these facilities struggle to accommodate our staff and secure lecture halls for our students, UHAS has converted our facilities into hostels, generating IGF.”

The aggrieved staff on Tuesday, embarked on a street protest to draw the attention of the public and government to the ongoing impasse.

The move, the say follows several failed peaceful and diplomatic moves, including petitions to all relevant stakeholders and authorities in the recent past.

At the site, the aggrieved staff presented another copy of their petition to representatives of UHAS who were on standby to receive them.
