Work has resumed on the much talked about Phase I of the Fodome campus project for the Fred Binka School of Public Health of the University of Health and Allied Sciences.

The project now estimated to cost a total of GHC36,899,622.11 was commenced in 2015 by the first Mahama government but stalled for almost ten-years despite repeated calls from chiefs in the area for its completion.

In 2021, when then President Akufo-Addo visited the project site, he told the chiefs of Fodome that about $160 million was sought towards completion of the project.

Nonetheless, the project which stood at fifty-eight percent (58%), saw no progress despite the assurances from the government of the time.

But the contractor has now returned to site following new commitments from government.

Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo told 3news in an interview that a lot more infrastructural projects are expected to spring up to deal with the school’s growing population once the Phase I is completed.

“We started the Fodome campus project and we are back to complete it. With the contractor now back to site, we are sure that once this phase is completed, it will take care of the school’s growing population,” he said.

“After the Phase I, the other phases will take off in time. The prayer is to get this one ready so the school can use it next academic year.”

Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu who toured the site on Wednesday, urged the contractor to ensure timely completion of the project while assuring him of government’s commitment.

He said, “If you’re back, come back well and make sure you finish this work. This project is so dear to the heart of the President.”

“I will be passing here, when I come, I want to see your weekly and monthly work plan clearly displayed,” the Regional Minister added.

The first phase of the UHAS expansion project when completed will provide space for a total 600-capacity lecture halls and other ancillary facilities.
