Defender Alexander Djiku has been replaced in the Black Stars following an injury he picked up in camp.
Announcing this to the press on Monday, June 1, Black Stars Head Coach Carlos Queiroz expressed confidence in the remaining center backs ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“We have to make a decision and replace [Alexander] Djiku and it doesn’t matter which player I call,” he told journalists at the Cardiff City Stadium.
“Now, we are going to have simple center backs in camp and you saw them play.”
Despite this setback, the former Portugal national team coach said: “We are ready to take off.”

Djiku was at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar playing in Ghana’s games against Portugal and South Korea.
He has been a pivotal player at the back of defence for Ghana in the past five years.
His injury adds to growing concerns about the number of players sidelined from the national team due to injury.
Among these are fellow center back Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudus.
