The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has imposed curfew on some communities in the Gushegu District of the Northern Region.
The curfew begins with immediate effect from Wednesday, April 15, 2026. Residents are expected to restrict movements and stay indoors at 6: 00 pm to 6: 00 am each day until the curfew is lifted.
The communities affected by the curfew are; Paboni, Yidaani, Kukpok, Busun no. 1, Busun no. 2, Nagnani, Nayagile, Donbin, Kolik, Tinyongu and Klokpan.
Government urges chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.
Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons from the above communities in the Gushegu District from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive objects/ weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
In a related development, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special team of operational officers and armoured vehicles to Gushegu and Karaga to beef up security following recent clashes in the town.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, the team will work with officers of the Northern Regional Police Command to intensify patrols and enhance security in the towns and surrounding communities.
The goal of the reinforcement is to boost police visibility throughout the impacted areas and increase the ability to respond quickly to security threats.
The increased deployment, according to security officials, is a part of a larger effort to stabilize the situation and reassure locals as security operations continue.
