The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has charged leaders to invest in women entrepreneurs to drive Africa’s economic growth.
Speaking at the 27th Zonta District 18 conference in Accra, on Thursday, October 16, 2025, the Vice President said as part of government’s commitment to gender equality, it has expanded access to education and supported women in leadership.
The three-day Zonta Conference, themed “Realising Equality: Building for an Even Brighter Future for Women and Girls in Africa,” brought together representatives from 23 Zonta Clubs in Africa.

The conference aims to promote STEM education and empower women and girls in Africa, highlighting the importance of achieving gender equality and supporting women’s development.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang, who opened the conference, urged the gathering to make equality real and lasting, noting laws and policies must be complimented by partnerships with people in order for real transformation to take place in communities.

‘’Government is committed to gender equality and has expanded access to education, supported women in leadership and strengthened protection against gender-based violence,’’ she said.

She charged the participants not to lose sight of collaborations and continue to prepare girls to lead as well as invest in women entrepreneurs to drive Africa’s economic growth.

‘’During this conference, do not lose sight of collaborations which is already one of your strengths, continue to prepare girls to lead and continue to invest in women entrepreneurs to drive Africa’s economic growth,’’ the Veep noted.

President of Zonta said they are proud to advance female empowerment initiatives indicating they are collaborating with the Koforidua Technical University to sponsor 15 beneficiaries.
‘’The project aims to open doors for bright but under privileged girls from all regions to pursue science, engineering and mathematics through academic support’’.
