Blessed Godsbrain Smart, host of Onua TV/FM morning show has alleged President Akufo-Addo has delegated the Council of State to initiate the sacking of the Finance Minister.
He says the Council has been directed to invite the Governor of Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison and the Finance Minister, Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, to explain to them why the cedi is performing abysmally against other foreign currencies, especially the US dollar.
During his rants Wednesday, August 24, 2022, Captain Smart averred Dr. Addison pumps about $27 million daily into the economy to curb the free fall of the cedi to the dollar but to no avail.
He says the plan is for the Council to ask the minister to step aside since the financial outlook of the economy is the worst Ghana has had in the Fourth Republic after the meeting.
Captain Smart has added the President has taken this approach because he can’t sack the minister, who is his cousin, by himself.
“Nana Addo wants Council of State to sack Ofori-Atta because he can’t do it himself. So they have invited him and the Bank of Ghana governor to come and explain why the cedi is not performing well. The governor has tried everything but it is not working. Addison pumps about $27m into economy each day but it is still not working,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, whilst the cedi trades to the dollar at 10 Cedis, he alleged further that “the Bank of Ghana trades the dollar to government ̈officials for GH₵4.50p.
