2024 flag bearer aspirant for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has condemned Parliament for the recent happenings in the House.
He says the occupation of the Majority side by Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the boycott of sitting by the NPP is unworthy of legislators.
According to the Assin North lawmaker, the 9th Parliament will face a lot of challenges if the recent happenings persist.
He says the winning party will not get two-thirds of the House’s composition and will pose a grave challenge for the functioning of Parliament.
Speaking to the press after the Speaker’s second indefinite adjournment of the House Thursday, November 07, 2024, the vociferous lawmaker said it was absurd to see grown up men behaving the way they have been behaving in Parliament.
“Whatever is going on, if we don’t put an end to it and we politicise issues, Ghana, in 2025, you’ll see worse things in Parliament.
“Because whoever wins and whoever loses will not cooperate then what will be the fate of our country? That is my major concern.
“Of Late, I’ve not been speaking but it’s absurd to see grown ups, Members of Parliament, behaving the way we are behaving,” cautioned Ken Agyapong.
He asked Members to arrive at a consensus for the sake of peace, since the development is not only affecting the NPP but the entire country.
“For peace sake, how many weeks are left for the country to go through all it’s going through. It not only NPP but Ghana that is going through all these challenges,” he stated.
He also expressed fears over probability of the impasse affecting next month’s salaries for workers.
“Where things are going, I believe that next month it’s going to be christmas and workers are not even going to have their salary because Parliament, we have to approve.
“So, I decided not to talk but what I saw at the conference centre when i was coming, I’m entreating and pleading with you to be very objective. Taking entrenched positions to support a political party will not help this country,” he added.
