The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Jaman South constituency has firmly rejected allegations by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that they rigged the December 07 elections.
The accusations, which have heightened political tensions in the constituency, has been described by officials of the NPP as baseless and lacking evidence.
Samuel Obeng Takyi, the Jaman South NPP Constituency Secretary, speaking at a press conference Wednesday, December 11, 2024, assured the public that the party is committed to peaceful elections and preservation of Ghana’s democratic values.
His remarks sought to reassure Ghanaians and respond to allegations made by the NDC in prior media engagement claiming the results was rigged.
Takyi noted that both the NPP and NDC collated the results together with the NPP representative who raised no objection only to return the next day to complain that the results was rigged.
“We collated all our results and presented them with out pink sheets and laptops. The NDC and the Electoral Commission (EC) also brought their own to the collation centre and we crosschecked each code with the numbers on the pink sheets and the EC certifies.
“The NDC representative didn’t raise a single objection. The only thing he said was that he wasn’t hearing the code when they mention so the EC should be audible and they told him they were tired due to the work they have done so he should be attentive. That was the only thing he said he didn’t raise any other concern about the results so I’m surprised that he accepted the results to come back after 24 hours to claim they have won,” he disclosed.
With 111 polling stations from the constituency, Col. Kwadwo Damoah of the NPP polled 17,529 votes constituting 52.33% with the NDC’s Okofo Dartey garnering 15,873 votes which represents 47.39%.
