Atalanta midfielder Kamaldeen Sulemana has expressed appreciation to teammate Joseph Paintsil for setting him up for his first goal for the Black Stars.

Kamaldeen, who has played for the Stars since 2020, scored the fifth and final goal in the 5-0 drubbing of Central African Republic (CAR) in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Speaking after the match, Kamaldeen said the goal means a lot to him as it comes after years of search, crediting Paintsil for the assist.

“I appreciate Paintsil very much,” he stated. “He set me up.”

“I have been waiting for so long. It’s been years and this is my first goal. It means a lot to me.”

The goal comes after a couple of goals at club level for Atalanta.

Kamaldeen, who joined La Dea from Southampton, netted in the 3-0 win over Torino before scoring in the 1-1 draw against Juventus a week later.

He promised that “Inshallah more will come. The marathon continues”.
