A 30-year-old man has been allegedly killed by his friends over an argument on GHC200.00 at Ofaakor, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East municipality of the Central Region.

The money, according to brother of the deceased, was obtained from a developer who had flouted the ban on noise making in the area.

At the Ofaakor vicinity where the incident happened Sunday, June 30, 2024, there is ban on noise making, and anyone caught flouting it is sanctioned by the authorities with the help of members of the Kasoa Odupong Ofaakor Asafo, which both the suspects and the deceased were part.

Onua News’ Nana Yaw Asare reports that the group had gone for a fine of GHC7,000.00 from a developer who was not supposed to be working as part of the ban on noise making.

The men, after delivering the amount to the stool authorities, returned to the developer for an extra GHC200.00 to be kept for themselves. But when the deceased demanded his share from the suspects, it turned into an argument.

According to brother of the deceased who also witnessed the incident, Edem Saglo, they had an exchange the afternoon but the suspects returned with knife, stones and sticks around 11pm to attack the 30-year-old to death.

Edem said he attempted stopping the suspects from attacking his brother but they struck him with a stick which rendered him unconscious.

“He came with his brother, BS (Baddest Shatta) planned to beat up the deceased. So they came with a stick and stone and when I tried stopping them, they struck me down and I passed out. By the time I gained consciousness they had weakened him too and we rushed him to the hospital. But we passed by the police station to lodge a complaint. It was about some GHC200.00 they were supposed to share,” he narrated.

Some other eye witnesses said they also tried intervening but the suspects pulled a knife which scared them off.

“He pushed me to the ground and when Wofa K. went in to separate, they pulled a cutlass. BS was holding a stone and he struck his jaw with it. His brother also hit him with the stick and he fell on the ground and his brother continued hitting him with the stick on the ground,” one other witness narrated.

Meanwhile, the Kasoa Ofaako District Police command is conducting investigation into the matter while the suspects are at large.
