The Ministry of National Security has denied one Benlord Ababio, a suspect in the killing of a military officer at Millennium City, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central Region, as one of its staff.

Mr. Ababio, who is alleged to be a land guard at Millennium City, shot into a vehicle being occupied by three military men, killing one in the process.

LCpl Michael Danso was shot and killed in front of the Millennium City police station after accompanying his colleague with one other over a disputed land at Kasoa.

The suspect, according to rumours, is a member of the National Security. But a statement from the Ministry Wednesday, May 1, 2024, says, Benlord isn’t a staff.

“The Ministry of National Security has taken note of a news item in circulation on social media which alleges that a supposed staff of the Ministry of National Security, by name Benlord Ababio, in an incident that occurred on Tuesday 30th April, 2024 at Millennium City, Kasoa, shot and killed a soldier.

“The Ministry wishes to put on record that the suspect, Benlord Ababio, who is currently in police custody, is not a staff of the Ministry of National Security,” portions of the statement said.

The Ministry urged the public to disregard any news item portraying the suspect is a staff of the National Security.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces has condemned the killing of one of its officers, expressing its collaboration with the police to investigate the matter.

A statement signed by the Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Eric Aggrey-Quashie, on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, said “GAF wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, friends and loved ones of the deceased soldier; even as we closely collaborate with the police in conduct further investigations”

“GAF condemns this unprovoked attack in no uncertain terms,” the statement added.

“We reiterate our commitment to maintaining law and order in our communities, and urge all citizens to seek peaceful and lawful means to resolve land disputes and to refrain from engaging in acts of violence to prevent such tragic incidents,” the military advised.
