The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Asante Kotoko has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to address the issues of officiating, safety and security.

According to a statement by the club, such issues undermine the “integrity of the game on all levels”.

The statement follows a disciplinary action initiated against the club after their Matchday 23 home loss to Nations FC.

Irate fans charged on match officials, who had to be shielded off the field by security officers.

The club was charged for breaching Section 16 of the GFA Disciplinary Code 2019 and Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations 2019.

“It is alleged that their supporters behaved inappropriately towards the Match Officials of the said game,” the charge said.

“It is also alleged that the club’s Social Media commentary on the Match Officials of the said game constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.”

But in condemning their fans’ action, Asante Kotoko called on the GFA to address issues such as officiating, safety and security.

“It must be noted that under no circumstance will Asante Kotoko condone any act that violates and undermines the sporting integrity of the game.

“The club will like to assure its stakeholders that it has taken appropriate steps in working hand-in-hand with the GFA in addressing and finding a lasting solution to this matter.

“However, we also call on the GFA to address issues such as officiating, safety and security amongst others which tend to undermine the integrity of the game on all levels.

“Our call is not only for Kotoko, but as a beacon of Ghana’s football heritage, there is the need to ensure the game is accorded the seriousness it deserves by all stakeholders in the quest to push our football to the expected heights.”
