Asante Kotoko has urged patience from their followers, noting that the club is in the market searching for a “right candidate” for a substantive role.

The Ghana Premier League giants have been without a substantive head coach after Abdul-Karim Zito resigned in February.

Assistant Coach Prince Yaw Owusu was handed temporary charge of the team prior to the Hearts of Oak loss following Zito’s resignation.

Coach Yaw Owusu appears to have failed to meet expectations as the club has dropped on the League standings.

They suffered their heaviest defeat in recent years on Sunday, when they were thrashed 4-0 by leaders Medeama SC at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the club said: “The Board is working actively to appoint a competent substantive head coach whose philosophy aligns with the long-term ambitions of the club.

“We kindly ask for your patience as we take the necessary time to identify the right candidate.”

Signed by Communications Director Samuel Sarfo Duku, the statement also apologised to fans over the recent poor performance.

“We continue to sincerely apologise for the disappointing performances in recent matches.

“We want to assure our cherished supporters that decisive steps are being taken to restore the club to its rightful standards.”
