The government’s flagship 24-hour economy market initiative is set to take off in the Western North region within the next two weeks, following the arrival of contractors to begin work on the project.

According to the Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum contractors who successfully bid for the project have officially been issued offer letters after a thorough evaluation process.

“We have completed the necessary processes, and contractors are now in ready to begin work,” the Minister stated.

The Minister disclosed that the initiative will see the construction of modern market facilities across all nine districts in the region, aimed at boosting local commerce and creating employment opportunities.

“This project will cover all the nine districts in the region, and it is intended to enhance trading activities and create jobs for our people,” he added.

He has therefore directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to make temporary arrangements for market women and traders to ensure that trading activities continue uninterrupted while construction is ongoing.

“We are urging all MMDCEs to provide temporary spaces for market women so their daily activities are not disrupted during the construction phase,” the Minister emphasized.

The Minister further stressed that the 24-hour economy policy is not just a political slogan, but a well thought out intervention designed to significantly enhance economic productivity in the region.

“The 24-hour economy market is not just a joke; it is a serious initiative that will boost economic activities and improve livelihoods,” he said.

He added that, when completed, the project is expected to transform trading activities by promoting round the clock business operations.

The 24-hour economy initiative forms part of broader government efforts to stimulate economic growth, increase productivity, and create sustainable job opportunities across the country.
