Over 50 students are currently receiving treatment in various medical facilities across the Oti region, after a vehicle transporting them from an Inter-Circuit Sports Competition got involved in an accident.

The bus which was transporting the students from the sports event at Adokwanta in the Krachi East district had the accident on the stretch between Tokuroano and Dormabin.

The local community was left in a state of shock after eyewitnesses report that the vehicle which was loaded with student-athletes veered off the road with a severe impact which saw some victims being thrown from the wreckage.

Some residents and emergency responders teamed up to rescue the survivors who were trapped in the mangled vehicle. They were spread across several health facilities in the area in order not to overwhelm one facility due to the number of people involved.

The scale of the tragedy has forced a multi-facility medical response. The injured have been distributed based on the severity of their wounds:

  1. Worawora Government Hospital: Receiving the most critical cases requiring specialist surgical intervention.
  2. Dormabin Health Centre: Managing dozens of students with fractures and lacerations.
  3. Tokuroano Health Facility: Acting as a primary stabilising point for those with less life-threatening injuries.

While official casualty figures are still being clarified, medical sources at Worawora confirm that the number of hospitalised students is nearly 50, with several still in “unstable” condition.
