Midfielder Mohammed Kudus has broken his silence on what kept him from reporting to camp for the national team on time.

The West Ham United player only joined the team last Tuesday, January 9 after the 0-0 friendly game against Namibia.

He has since been part of all training regimen and was also at the farewell dinner held for them by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

There were earlier fears that he could miss the AFCON opener due to the severity of the injury picked up in the Irons’ 2-0 win over Arsenal on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

“I had a setback,” the 23-year-old said in an interview with the GFA on Saturday, January 13.

“I got an injury so I started my rehab at the club and there was constant communication between the club physio and the physios at the national team and the decision was for me to start the rehab at the club and then do the last part of the rehab here.”

He added: “That’s why I am here and I am doing the last part of the rehab and I am doing my best to be ready for the team because the only way I can help the team is being fully fit and ready.”

Ghana will begin their campaign for a trophy since 1982 in a Group B clash against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14.

They will later meet Egypt and Mozambique in the same group.
