The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Richard Kwasi Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, has expressed dissatisfaction with the work of security personnel stationed in the Central Business District of Kumasi.
He has suggested the need to include some members of the National Security to these personnel, which includes the police and city guards, to save the situation.
Speaking on GhanAkoma morning show on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi with Sir John on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Ofori-Agyemang urged police officers and city guards on duty to be diligent, honest, and committed.
He emphasised that adhering to professional ethics is crucial for maintaining law and order in Ghana’s second-largest city.
According to him, promoting discipline in society was one critical component of the terms of reference for the guards, security operatives and as such, it was expected of them to avoid practices likely to bring their image into disrepute.
He has threatened to sack some of the city guards and other security operatives for dereliction of duty and bribe-taking leading to congestion in the Central Business District of Kumasi.
According to him, it has come to his notice that “the security guards have been influenced to allow violations of the Assembly’s by-laws and that the level of indiscipline among security guards was intolerable and it has come to the point where they must be disciplined.”
He also accused them of “blatantly allowing market women to sell on pavements when they are not supposed to and have refused to ensure sanity on the roads.”
