Heavy traffic in Ash Town Mrom in Kumasi forced the city’s Mayor, Richard Kwasi Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, to direct vehicles for free flow of traffic.
Controlling vehicular movement at major road intersections is hindered when traffic signals are off. In the midst of the chaos, the KMA boss dared to bring order to one of Kumasi’s road intersections.
In a viral video, Mr. Ofori-Agyemang is seen directing traffic flow at the Ash Town Mbrom intersection on the St Louis College of Education roundabout. For one hour, the Kumasi Mayor is seen directing traffic on that stretch.
Speaking on GhanAkoma morning show on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi with Sir John, Mr. Ofori-Agyemang said the area is prone to accidents anytime there is heavy traffic on the stretch.
He was inspired to take on the volunteer traffic warden job in the middle of the confusion and road rage.
The motorists initially ignored instructions, but eventually did so in order for him to achieve free flow of traffic.
He said he realised there were no MTTD officials so the cars were almost crushing.
“They were almost crushing their cars and I couldn’t sit unconcerned. That’s why I went there to intervene,” he explained.
He appealed to all to support the redevelopment of the city of Kumasi.
