At Kwahu Atibie in the Eastern region, a woman and her two-year-old son have died from a suspected food poisoning, leaving two other family members in critical condition.
The woman, identified as Taanii, is a food vendor who sold fufuo at Mpraeso. According to her landlord, Emmanuel Osarfo Wiafe, the duo, after attending to their daily routine, could not wake up the next day after going to bed.
He told Onua News’ Yaa Yeboah Boamah that “a day before the incident, the family went to sell the food and came back peacefully and [we] do not know what happened in the night. In the morning, they couldn’t wake up.”
Meanwhile, the bodies of the woman and her son have been deposited at the Kwahu Government Hospital at Atibie, awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
The two other family members who are in critical condition are currently receiving treatment at the intensive care unit at the same facility.
The incident raises concerns about food safety and public health, especially given that the woman was a food vendor.
Authorities have cautioned the public to be vigilant about food hygiene and to seek immediate medical attention if they experience any symptoms of food poisoning, which can range from nausea and vomiting to severe, life-threatening conditions.
