Akoma 87.9FM, a subsidiary of Media General in Kumasi, has marked its 6th anniversary with a Thanksgiving Service at Emmanuel Temple Assemblies Of God Church at Asafo YF.
The milestone event brought together industry, stakeholders, sponsors, staff, and loyal listeners to reflect on the station’s journey and impact over the years.
The General Manager of Akoma FM, Ransford Nana Osei Asare, recounted the station’s history.
“Six years ago, Media General made a bold move to re-strategise with a Twi-speaking station in Kumasi.”
He said the station has revolutionalise youth and urban culture in Kumasi, setting the standard for others to follow.
“Despite many radio stations attempting to adjust their strategies to keep up with our dominance across on-air, events and digital platforms, Akoma 87.9FM remains the pioneering force and the the best in the market, continuing to lead the way in innovation and excellence,” he stated.

The lead Pastor of Emmanuel Temple Assemblies of God Church, Asafo YF, Rev Sylvester Opoku Aboagye, commended the company on its performances over the years.
He prayed to God to help sustain the gains made by the radio station in the coming years and also expressed gratitude for the six years success.
“Building and sustaining a media house for six years is no small feat. It has taken dedication, resilience, and divine guidance,” he noted.
He thanked the station’s leadership, staff, and audience for their unwavering support, emphasizing that Akoma FM’s success is a collective achievement.
