Media General has received eight nominations for the 30th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards.

The nominees were announced on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra.

The nominations recognise journalistic works shortlisted for consideration in the Association’s annual awards, which celebrate excellence and professionalism in Ghana’s media industry.

Speaking at the announcement, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour said the event marks a key stage in the awards process, which is far advanced, with the venue now changed to The Palms Convention Centre at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

He said: “The GJA is pleased to announce that preparations are far advanced for the 30th GJA Media Awards scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026. The awards, the 30th edition of the Association’s flagship event, will celebrate the outstanding contributions of journalists and media organisations to Ghana’s democratic governance, national development and socio-economic progress.”

Touching on this year’s theme, he explained that it underscores the need to reward excellence while addressing pressing issues concerning journalists.

“This year’s theme, ’30th GJA Media Awards: Celebrating Excellence, Advancing Media Freedom and Combating Hate Speech in the Digital Age’, underscores the importance of recognising excellence in journalism while confronting emerging challenges in the rapidly evolving digital media environment. It also reinforces the need for journalists and media institutions to uphold the highest professional and ethical standards in the discharge of their responsibilities.”

Chairman of the Awards Committee, Kobby Asmah, touched on the processes the committee went through in the selection.

“We undertook the review between October 7 and October 27, 2026. Our work covered journalistic productions published in 2025 and submitted for consideration in the various awards categories. The secretariat, as indicated by the President of the Association, received 327 entries from 206 applicants.

The committee reviewed 326 entries across six divisions covering print, television, radio, online, digital and new media platforms. The review process resulted in 36 citations across the award categories, culminating in the GJA PAV Ansah Journalist of the Year Award,” he said.

Media General’s eight nominations is the highest among the media outlets represented in this year’s competition.

The nominees are:

1. Portia Gabor

2. Christian Yalley (2 nominations)

3. Eric Mensah-Ayettey
