The Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the completion of the La General Hospital redevelopment project.
The sector minister after a familiarization tour of the project site on October 9, the first after his appointment, assured the project contractor of an allocation of some 130 million cedis as a commitment from government to the project completion.

The La General Hospital redevelopment project would probably pass as one of the controversial projects that leaves much to be desired anytime it is mentioned.
This is because accessing healthcare by residents of La and its environs has been a tussle for years despite numerous promises, after the demolition of the old structure in 2020.
After months of change in government, their hopes of seeing the project completed was nearly d ashed as they longed to see commitment by the current government.

The Health Minister, accompanied by the Member of Parliament for La Dade Kotopon and the Municipal Chief Executive, visited the project site on Thursday for a familiarization tour.

After a short briefing by the contractors, he and the officials were taken round the project to see the level of work done so far. After which he assured them of governments’ commitment to provide the needed funds to complete the project in 2years time.
“In the 2025 budget, we made an allocation of 130 million cedis for the project. My records are that part of the 50 million euros needed for the project, about 12 million have been paid. Which means there is more to be paid to complete the project. The 2nd RPC have been raised, and we have done some follow-up with the Minister for Finance and he has assured his commitment to ensure that funds are released for the project to be completed.

As the sector minister, it is my responsibility to ensure the project is completed. And all things being equal, we are looking at it being completed in 2years time’’. He said.
Following the assurance by the Minister, the contractor noted that they will be resuming work fully in the next few weeks after receiving the funds and buying the needed materials.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Rita Odoley Sowah also used the occasion to reassure her constituents of plans to complete the project for them.
‘‘I want to let my people know that the Mahama government will not relent on its promise to them. The project will be completed for them.”She assured.
For the residents, they can only be grateful for the effort by government to see to the completion of the project.
