Former Black Stars striker Raphael Dwamena is set to be buried this month.

This will climax final funeral rites on Friday, February 16 at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf in East Legon.

The Albanian-based striker collapsed and died on Saturday, November 11, 2023 during a league game.

His side, KF Egnatia, were playing against Partizani when the sad incident occurred.

It was in the 23rd minute with no challenge on him.

Efforts to resuscitate him proved futile as he gave up the ghost on the way to the Kavajë Hospital after emergency care was administered on-pitch, reports said.

Dwamena signed for FK Egnatia in 2022, making a total of 37 appearances and scoring 24 goals.

His club was on top of the Albanian league and he was the leading scorer with 9 goals prior to his demise.

He was one of two players who had registered hat-tricks in the 2023/24 season when he died.

Heart condition

Dwamena’s heart condition was detected after medicals with English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, forcing the deal to be cancelled in 2017.

He, however, went on to later sign for Levante in the Spanish La Liga from FC Zurich.

He also played for Real Zaragoza in Spain, Vejle in Denmark, FC Blau Weiss Linz in Austria, BSC Old Boys in Switzerland and KF Egnatia until his demise.
