Sister of Raphael Dwamena has revealed how close and dear the deceased footballer was to the family.

Yvonne Ama Dwamena said “he was one in a million”.

“My brother was everything. He was a humble soul.”

Yvonne, who comes right after Raphael in a family of three siblings, was sharing her experience of how the family received news of his death on Onua FM/TV’s Maakye morning show on Tuesday, November 14.

Raphael Dwamena collapsed on pitch in his club KF Egnatia’s league game against Partizani in the Albanian top-tier league on Saturday, November 11.

Emergency on-field medical care was administered on him but he was pronounced dead while being transported to the Kavajë Hospital.

Yvonne says the family is yet to officially hear from his club about the whole incident.

Affectionately called Nana Kwame by his family, Raphael Dwamena was the first-born of his parents.

His mother, Ruby Akakpo, who was also on the morning show, said he was born in Asamankese in the Eastern Region but grew up in Nkawkaw, where he started his footballing career.

Dwamena went on to play for major European sides like FC Zurich, Levante and Real Zaragoza.

His aborted move to English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion due to failed medicals brought to the fore his heart conditions.

But he continued to play in major leagues such as the Spanish La Liga, Austrian league, the Swiss league and more recently the Albanian league.
