With exactly one month to Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections, a group of lecturers from public universities in the Ashanti Region have thrown their support behind leader of the largest opposition party, John Dramani Mahama.

The group has begun door to door campaign for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with the conviction that an NDC government will reverse the rising economic hardship.

The academics lamented over what they described as unending hardship in the country, forcing many young professionals to leave the country in search of greener pastures.

“The hardship we face in this country does not affect only the less privileged. We professionals in the academia are equally affected and worried about the state of our economy. Government has made life difficult for us all and we believe that it is time we rally behind former president John Mahama to rescue this country”, Professor Nathaniel Boso, a senior lecturer the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology explained.

The group has mobilized resources to intensify personalized campaign to canvass for more votes for the NDC.

“We will be engaging the ordinary Ghanaian one on one for them to understand what John Mahama stands for and how he intends to bring relief to all of us.

“In fact, the recent USA elections should inform Ghanaians that, we can’t just hand over the country to a driver’s mate when we have an experienced driver”, Professor Ohene Adjei, an academic researcher indicated.

The group is hopeful that, the return of the former President will bring the positive change Ghanaians have been yearning for.
