The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed the Management of the Ministry of Health and its agencies to align their programmes and operations with the health priorities outlined in the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto.
Speaking at an ongoing two-day Management retreat on January 12, the Minister noted that the manifesto provides a clear framework for key health sector reforms and priority interventions aimed at improving access, coordination, and quality of service delivery nationwide.
He stressed that strict alignment of institutional plans with these policy commitments is essential to meeting public expectations and accelerating sector performance.
‘‘It’s not as if what you are presenting is not good, it’s fantastic but you are not aligning them to the manifesto. You are not owning the provisions in the manifesto. It’s not coming out clearly. So, you see a Minister will sit down there, because all of these are brilliant ideas, we will go on that direction and leave our document somewhere and four years Ghanaians will ask me what did you do so please, it is one of the reasons why we are here. Let me see you owning the provisions in the manifesto. Take responsibility. Let’s go back.’’ He admonished.

Mr Akandoh described the retreat as a strategic opportunity to review progress, address gaps, and reorient the Ministry and its agencies toward new performance targets for 2026 and beyond.
He called for renewed commitment, stronger inter-agency collaboration, and accountability to effectively drive the government’s health agenda and deliver improved health outcomes for Ghanaians.
“This retreat is not just an interactive exercise, but a learning and strategic partnership forum, it allows us to take an honest performance assessment, identify gaps, and address systemic constraints to improve planning and implementation this year.” He said.
He encouraged participants to demonstrate renewed commitment, inter-agency collaboration and accountability as they collectively drive the government’s health agenda and deliver improved outcomes for citizens.
