Former President William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called for the proper honouring of the legacy of Dr. Joseph Boakye (J.B) Danquah.
Akufo-Addo says J.B. Danquah’s contributions to political history and national development should not be overshadowed by the current controversies.
He made the remarks at the launch of a compendium commemorative statements at Kyebi in the Eastern Region, marking the legacy of the late Dr. J.B Danquah.
“Danquah’s persistence course for the rule of law to be entrenched in the body politics is the utmost guarantee of liberty and individual freedom from that day and finally today the central features of the Ghanaian politics which must never run out.
“Despite the breadth and depth of Dr. Danquah’s contribution to development of Ghana, his name continues to elicit needless controversies in death as in life,” Akufo-Addo stated.

The event was attended by the former President, Akufo-Addo, together with the Minority leadership as well as some NPP Members of Parliament.
The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on his part called for state machinery not to be used to perpetuate injustice, which is an affront to the human rights and justice that Dr. J.B fought for.
“The principles for which Danquah fought are still relevant today. Recent incidents such as troubled raid of a former minister’s residence should remind us of the fragile nature of our democracy. We must never allow the machinery of state power to operate beyond bounds of justice,” he called.
The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, also emphasized the need to end what he describes as malicious and mischievous ignorance being peddled against J.B Danquah’s legacy.
“What I am saying is that, he did some for us, what have we done for him. He sacrificed a lot. Some people are with malice destroying his name. We should not allow that to happen. A monument should be built in his honour at Saltpond where he joined the struggle for independence,” he said.
Dr. Joseph Kwame Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah, has been described by some people as a doyen of Ghanaian politics.
