Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Local Government, Culture and Religious Affairs has extended warm Eid al-Adha wishes to Muslims across Ghana while calling for religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among citizens.
Speaking on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, the First Lady, the National Chairman, and the National Executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on May 27, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs emphasized the importance of unity and harmony among Ghanaians during the Islamic celebration.
According to the Minister, Eid al-Adha remains one of the most significant and holiest festivals in Islam, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
Ahmed Ibrahim noted that both Christianity and Islam share common teachings on sacrifice and faith, stressing that the similarities between the two religions should inspire greater religious tolerance in the country.
“In the Old Testament of the Bible, Christians believe in the sacrifice of Isaac by Prophet Abraham, while in the Islamic faith, Eid al-Adha signifies the sacrifice involving Ishmael by Prophet Ibrahim. This demonstrates the need for religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence,” he stated.
The Minister further described Ghana as a country known for cultural, political, ethnic, religious, and economic tolerance, adding that the nation’s unity and peaceful coexistence continue to attract admiration from other countries.
He urged Ghanaians to preserve the country’s enviable reputation for harmony and mutual respect among people of different backgrounds and faiths.
The message was delivered as part of Eid al-Adha celebrations to wish Muslims across Ghana a happy and peaceful festival.
