The Upper East Regional Chief Imam Sheikh Yussif Umar Mahamoud during this year’s Eid Ul Adha prayers in Bolgatanga reiterated the need for the youth in the region to prioritize peace and togetherness as Islam preaches.

Thousands of Muslims gathered at the NAFAC grounds in Bolgatanga to observe the Eid Ul Adha prayers which fall on the 10th of Zulhija of the Islamic calendar after Hajj pilgrims observed the day of Arafah in Mecca.

In his Eid sermon, the Upper East Regional Chief Imam Sheikh Yussif Umar Mahamoud thanked Allah for yet another day of Eid and prayed for those performing Hajj to be accepted.

On insecurity in the region, the chief Imam, admonished the youth to take up peace as a priority and urged them to desist from acts that will lead to conflicts.

“Islam is the religion of peace, love and protection of the poor and the vulnerable in the society. Islam forbids Acts that lead to acts of violence extremism, but rather promote humanity through living together in harmony and happiness and that’s why this special day is a day to reflect on good deeds and live together as one. Let us embrace peace in the region for Allah to show as mercy here in this world and hereafter”, Sheikh Yussif Umar Mahamoud said.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, said as REGSEC, a lot has gone to ensure peace prevails in the region, especially Bawku.

“As we celebrate this Eid, let us continue to pray for lasting peace in our region, especially peace in Bawku and its surrounding communities. Peace remains the foundation for development and progress”.

“I also wish to express concern about the growing problem of drug abuse and substance misuse among the youth. This dangerous practice threatens the future of our young people and the moral strength of our communities.

I therefore urge religious leaders, parents, and the entire Muslim community to continue guiding and mentoring the youth towards responsible living and positive behaviour”, Donatus Akamugri Atanga added.
