President John Mahama has extended the condolences of the government and people of Ghana to the US government in relation to the devastating effects of the floods that occurred on July 4, 2025.
In a letter dated July 8 and addressed to the President of the US, Donald Trump, President Mahama said Ghanaians are particularly concerned that many Americans remain unaccounted after the floods.
“I have received with deep sorrow the news of the devastating floods that swept through Central Texas on 4th July 2025. Reports reaching us indicate that the disaster has claimed the lives of at least eighty (80) individuals, including children, displaced thousands, and caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure,” the President noted.
“The communities of Travis, Hays, and Williamson appear to have been among the hardest hit. We are particularly saddened by the fact that many persons remain missing,” he added.
President Mahama said, “On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Ghana, and in my own name, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, the Government, and the people of the United States of America, especially the bereaved families and all those affected by this tragic calamity.”
He bemoaned “the widespread destruction inflicted upon lives and livelihoods.”
“In the face of such adversity, we commend your resolute leadership and the tireless efforts of emergency personnel, local authorities, and volunteers who are working under extremely difficult circumstances to rescue, relieve, and restore affected communities.
Ghana stands in full solidarity with the Government and people of the United States during this moment of grief and national mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all,” President Mahama assured.
