The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended its lead in the three critical swing regions per the latest national opinion poll organised by the Global InfoAnalytics for the 2024 presidential election.

The Greater Accra, Central and Western regions have not been aligned with a single political party for some years now, with candidates likely to emerge victors in the national elections whenever they lead in these three regions.

According to the survey, although the NDC’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama, dropped in terms of support in the Central region, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, “however, still trails JDM 45% to 51%” with Mahama’s support base shooting up in the Greater Accra and Western regions.

“The poll also shows a disturbing outlook for the ruling government as the opposition leader extends his lead in the three critical swing regions (Greater Accra, Central and Western regions). Though JDM lost grounds in the Central region, his dominance in the Greater Accra and Western regions now stands at 66% and DMB, 28%, AKK, 5% and NKB, 1%,” the report  of the research stated.

The survey added that, whilst the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is making gains in the Oti region, John Mahama and his NDC are also consolidating their popularity in the Volta region with over 70 per cent of the votes.

“The poll also shows DMB making significant gains in the Oti Region and now at 42%, JDM 49%, AKK, 4% and NKB, 2%. In the Volta Region, JDM leads with 74% while DMB attracts 12%. The poll from the region shows AKK making strong gains as he now attracts 10% of the votes and NKB, 2%,” the poll pointed out.

Global InfoAnalytics continued in its report that “JDM (John Dramani Mahama) now leads in the North East region with 58%, DMB (Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia), 26% and AKK (Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen), 11%. In the turnaround for DMB in the Ashanti region, DMB has now regained the lead with 54%, JDM, 31%, AKK, 12% and Nana Kwame Bediako, 2%.”

Out of the 82 Constituencies polled, John Mahama leads in 55 of them, whilst Dr. Bawumia leads in 26, with the two tying in one constituency.
