The presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, is certain the Eastern Corridor road would have been completed if the NDC had stayed in power.

The project, which he says was commenced by the late President Mills, and continued by himself, was abandoned by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration after taking over.

For eight years, the project has seen no advancement until about some few weeks to elections where the government has deployed some machinery to the site.

According to Mahama, deceit is in the DNA of the NPP, the reason they have brought a contractor on the road five weeks to the elections.

Speaking to chiefs and residents of Kpassa in the Nkwanta North constituency Tuesday, November 05, 2024, John Mahama said the contractor would be taken off site once the elections are over.

He assured the chiefs and residents of his resolve to get the road completed once the NDC is brought back to power.

“I secured money to commence the Eastern corridor starting from Gushegu to Damongo. This place was also given on contract, meaning if it was the NDC in power, this road would have been completed.

“We also added some town roads to the contract. But the road was abandoned because we left power. On my way here I saw a contractor on the road. For 8 years you didn’t fix the road but a month and a half to election, you’ve put a machine on. That’s how they are. They will put a machine on it and abandon it once the elections are over.

“This Eastern Corridor was very dear to late President Mills so he started it and I came to continue. I think it’s the will of God for this to be completed by the NDC. When we come, this Eastern Corridor road is our number one priority road that we will do,” he assured.
