Former President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated the need for Africa to develop its human capital with emerging trends in technology to to foster growth.

He has established the necessity in leveraging on technological advancement, especially in the digital space, to meet the demanding trends on the job market.

The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in his interaction with students at the London School of Economics Wednesday, March 27, 2024, expressed the need to “embrace technology and innovation and expand beyond academic learning to emphasise vocational and technical training.”

This, he said, was due to the “job market [which] is rapidly evolving” adding that “it is imperative that our education systems evolve as well.”

In a piece shared on his Facebook wall after the encounter, John Mahama highlighted how job roles have evolved within the last decade when he first had a similar engagement with the students.

“Africa needs to develop the human capital required to propel our economies forward. The digital landscape, for example, was vastly different when I last spoke at the LSE a decade ago. Many job roles we see today were non-existent or just emerging in Africa,” he said in the post.

“The career aspirations of our children today reflect this technological evolution, and it is our responsibility to ensure that they are prepared for the future job market,” John Mahama added.
