A renowned business development strategist and consultant, Winfred Kingsley Afful, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for keeping his promise to halt waste spending in order to put the economy on the track of recovery.

For him, the 2025 mid-year budget speaks volumes of President Mahama’s commitment to reviving the economy as he meticulously shares the national cake to cater for all exigencies from the various sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

On budget day, Thursday, July 24, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson reaffirmed that the government will not seek additional funds beyond what has already been approved when he appeared before Parliament to present the mid-year budget.

“We are seeing a paradigm shift; we now have a president we can trust when it comes to spending. No waste of public funds as was the case before. He promised to ensure fiscal discipline, and he is delivering,” Mr Afful stated.

Ghana’s total public debt, according to the Finance Minister, has declined from GH¢ 726. 7 billion in December 2024 to GH¢ 613 billion by June 2025, representing a reduction of GH¢ 113.7 billion.

The debt-to-GDP ratio also fell from 61.8 per cent to 43.8 per cent
