In a beautiful display of kindness and compassion, Sharaf Mahama, the son of former President John Dramani Mahama, has chosen to mark his birthday in a unique and meaningful way.
Instead of traditional celebrations, Sharaf Mahama decided to spend his special day spreading joy and love to those who needed it most by donating relief items and educational materials to a Wa-based orphanage known as “Home of Light Islamic School” in the Upper West Region.
The donated items included: packs of Note 1 books, about 14 boxes of 2.2kg tomato pastes, eight gallons of liquid soap, and boxes of Mackerel among others.
Dramani Yunus, who did the presentation on behalf of Sharaf Mahama, while encouraging the children to learn hard, commended the Management of the facility for the painstaking job.
“I would like to use the opportunity to thank the headmaster for how far he has moulded our children for us”, he stated. He urged Management and children to use the donated items judiciously.
Former Ghana Ambassador to Mali and elder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region, Khalid Mahmud, said he considered the donation very important as it has the potential to highlight the importance of the orphanage to Ghana and beyond.
“So that people who are mindful of the transformation of the youth can come to the aid of this institution,” he said.
The Management of Home of Light Islamic School led by the administrator, Ruwaifa Abdul Haadi expressed gratitude to Sharaf Mahama and the entire team for the kind gesture shown to them.
He disclosed that the school was going through a transition to open its doors to people who are not orphans to be enrolled on the institute at a cost.
The current student population of the school stands at 200, out of which 180 are orphans.
