Jubilation erupted in Manhyia South as supporters of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia burst into chants after he swept the constituency in the NPP flagbearer primary held on January 31.
The former Vice President secured 453 votes, leaving closest rival Kennedy Ohene Agyapong trailing far behind with just 65 votes.
The win boosted confidence among Bawumia’s camp, with delegates chanting and celebrating as results continued to signal a strong nationwide lead.
The internal race occurred just over a year after the party’s abysmal performance in the 2024 general elections, when candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was defeated in a landslide by President John Dramani Mahama.
Dr Bryan Acheampong secured 51 votes whilst Kwabena Adjei Agyapong had 3 votes with Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum zero.
The atmosphere at the St Anne’s Anglican Church at Ash Town in Manhyia South Constituency was charged as delegates queued to cast their ballots in the NPP ‘s presidential election.
Party leaders supervised the process, while security personnel were on hand to maintain law and order.
649 voters were expected to vote in the Manhyia South constituency but 572 delegates turned up for the exercise with percentage of 88.1percent.
There was no rejected ballot.
It is expected that, the jubilation will continue till midnight.
