The 2024 running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), has congratulated the former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on his victory in the party’s recent flagbearer election.
He described the outcome as a sign of the party’s enduring democratic strength.
In a statement on his Facebook page after the internal contest, on Saturday, January 31,2026, Napo acknowledged that the period following the 2024 general elections had been challenging for the party but said the flagbearer race had demonstrated the NPP’s resilience and unity.
“This process has shown that the NPP remains a strong, democratic and united political family, capable of reorganising and preparing for the future,” he said.

” A hearty congratulations to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on his resounding victory in the just concluded presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party.
I am equally grateful to the leadership of the party and to all the aspirants who participated in the process for their maturity, discipline, and commitment to ensuring a peaceful and successful election.
My sincere appreciation also goes to all New Patriotic Party delegates who embraced our message of hope and renewal, and who have entrusted the future of our party to the capable hands of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Now is the time for unity. Let us come together as one party, firmly united behind the elephant and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as we rebuild, reposition, and prepare for New Patriotic Party for victory in 2028,” he added.
