John Dramani Mahama, former President of the Republic has asked the military to “exercise restraint and allow due process to investigate, apprehend, prosecute and punish the perpetrator(s)” of those involved in the murder of one of their colleagues at Ashaiman.

Mr. Mahama in a Facebook post said there are many innocent people who dwell within the vicinity, the reason the soldiers should apply due diligence to exempt them from suffering over something they have no idea of.

“There are obviously many people who live and work in Ashaiman who are innocent of this heinous crime. The military must, therefore, refrain from meting out extra-judicial justice to them,” he added.

The NDC flagbearer hopeful expressed his condolences with the bereaved family and the military, expressing how such incidents affect the force as their former Commander in Chief.

“Lordina and I extend our deepest condolences to his bereaved and grieving family, and the officers and men of the Ghana Armed Forces.”

John Mahama also sympathised with some torture victims of the military operation at Ashaiman.

He said it is his prayer that “we find peace and harmony in our dear country, as the government and state institutions immediately step in to address this potentially inflammatory development between Ashaiman and the Ghana Armed Forces; including providing commensurate compensation for all persons affected.”
