A group of military men numbering up to about 50 have stormed Ashaiman Official Town, a suburb of the Greater Accra region allegedly beating up residents.

A resident who spoke with Captain Smart on Maakye Tuesday morning, March 7, 2023, said they are being subjected to the beatings as a result of an officer who was murdered by some residents in the area Saturday dawn.

According to the resident, the soldiers were beating up anyone they see irrespective of gender. Only children were exempted from the exercise.

A video going viral on social media has some residents being forced to lie on their stomach in the stagnant waters that has taken over several parts of the vicinity as a result of Tuesday dawn’s downpour.

“The military guy who was murdered by knife wounds was in their singlet not their camouflage. They are beating everyone they see. Their aircraft force (trooper) is here. A lot have been injured. They number up to about fifty,” a female resident who spoke on Maakye indicated.

A 22-year-old soldier with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) band in Sunyani in the Bono region was murdered at Taifa, a suburb of Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region at the dawn of Saturday, March 4, 2023.

He was stabbed several times by his assailants who are yet unknown.

The soldier, according to sources, was returning from his girlfriend’s house at Taifa and heading towards his residence at Zongo-Laka also at Ashaiman when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Though he was carrying a laptop and other electronic gadgets, the attackers made away with only his iPhone.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances under which the soldier was killed and appealing for information from the public.
