The Minority in Parliament has expressed the need for government not to be adding up to the size of its administration, expressing its decision not to participate in the vetting of a new minister.
In a statement issued by the caucus today, Tuesday, July 02, 2024 and signed by the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, it said the Minority will not sit in for the vetting of the Deputy Minister-designate for Trade and Industry, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, scheduled for today.
According to the Minority, the economic hardship in the country is too much for the government to be doing more appointments.
With issues of food insecurity, debt default due to excessive borrowing, government corruption, and wasteful expenditures, the Minority further criticised the President’s continued nomination of additional ministers, stating it shows the lack of appreciation for the challenges the country is experiencing.
It noted that participating in the vetting would amount to endorsing the financial turmoil placed on the citizenry by the bloated government.
“Members of the Minority Caucus on the Appointments Committee of Parliament will not participate in today’s vetting of the President’s nominee for the post of Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.”
“The Caucus is affronted by the already large size of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government and its poor economic performance.”
“We are again unable to support this nomination by President Akufo-Addo at this time because our country has gone through (and continues to go through) very difficult periods, including crippling economic crisis, food insecurity, debt default as a result of excessive borrowing, corruption in government and wasteful and reckless expenditures,” portions of the statement said.
