The Minority in Parliament has petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate an alleged ongoing ‘secret’ recruitment into the security services.
According to the Minority, government is discreetly enlisting people into the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Ghana Police Service (GPS), Ghana Prisons Service and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).
The Minority caucus had earlier raised an alarm of the government giving two slots each to all Members of Parliament from the Majority caucus and parliamentary candidates of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be recruited into the security services.
The claim, which was rejected by the Majority, according to the Minister of Interior and Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso Central, Henry Quartey, was to clear a backlog of application that existed from the previous recruitment.
In a petition signed by the Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, MP for Builsa North, James Agalga and Peter Lancheni Toobu, Wa West MP July 16, 2024, the caucus says it wants CHRAJ to investigate the recruitment.
