Ghanaian champions FC Samartex played a 2-2 draw against Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca on Sunday in the first leg of their CAF Champions League’s penultimate round of qualifiers.
The Timber Giants were on their way to a vital 2-1 home victory over the three-time champions when Mohammed Boulacsout grabbed the equaliser in the 63rd minute.
The two-time CAF Super Cup winners drew first blood in the 20th minute when Mohammed Azrida scored for them.
But an ambitious overhead kick by Francis Gyetuah restored parity for the debutants from Ghana.
A couple of minutes to end the first half, Michael Ephson pounced on an error from the visitors’ goalkeeper after an Isaac Afful long strike to give his side the lead.
With the Ghanaians heading into the break in the lead, all was set for a showdown at the Accra Sports Stadium especially given the 2-0 loss on Friday by compatriots Nsoatreman FC at the same venue in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers.
Unluckily for the Ghanaian champions, Boulacsout drew his side level, ending the game 2-2.
The second leg is scheduled for Saturday, September 21 at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.
