The Royal Morocco Football Federation (FRMF) has served notice of appealing the decision by the Disciplinary Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 3, FRMF said the sanctions were not commensurate with the seriousness of the events at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

During the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) between Morocco and Senegal, chaos erupted when Congolese referee Jean-Jacques Ndala whistled for a penalty against the eventual champions, the Teranga Lions.

The players walked off the pitch while fans also clashed with stewards.

CAF handed a five-game ban on Senegal coach Pape Bouna Thiaw aside a $100,000 fine.

Players Iliman Cheikh Baroy and Ismaila Sarr were also suspended for two matches each with the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF) slapped with a total of $615,000 fine.

Aside players Achraf Hakimi and Ismaël Saibari being suspended and fined respectively, the FRMF was fined a total of $315,000 for various offences including the “inappropriate behaviour of the stadium’s ball boys during the aforementioned match”.

This the Moroccan football federation is rejecting.

“Considering that the sanctions issued by the Disciplinary Committee are not commensurate with the seriousness of these events, as confirmed by the official correspondence sent by the President of the Royal Moroccan Football League to the President of the Confederation of African Football,” the FRMF statement on Tuesday revealed.

“In order to preserve all the rights guaranteed by law, the Royal Moroccan Football League has decided to appeal these judgements.”
