The Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has disclosed that the prosecution team handing the murder case of Miss Joana Deladem Yabani has filed an amended charge sheet.
No further details of the amendment were provided.
In a press release issued on March 17, the authorities also revealed that an autopsy report on the deceased has been filed before the court.
It added that, “The case has been adjourned to April 1, 2025, to allow for the Attorney-General’s advice to be received and further legal processes to continue.
“During today’s proceedings, the court noted that the prosecution has yet to receive advice from the Attorney-General’s Office regarding the case. As a result, the court has directed the police prosecution team to liaise with the Attorney-General’s Office to facilitate a speedy trial. Master Daniel Tuffuor, a final-year student and the prime suspect in the alleged murder of his girlfriend, has been remanded for the second time,” the press release indicated.
The Management of KNUST expressed its commitment to “ensuring that justice is served in a manner that meets the expectations of the bereaved family and all stakeholders.”
The death of Joana Deladem Yabani has sent shockwaves throughout the KNUST community, with students, staff, and the public grappling with the painful loss.
The deceased has been described by friends as a “kind and promising young woman.”
Joana’s lifeless body was found on February 27, 2025, behind the Central Laboratory on the university campus.
According to reports, CCTV footage captured a man, believed to be Tuffour, allegedly strangling her following a heated argument. He was arrested hours after the incident and first appeared in court on February 28, 2025, where he was initially remanded for two weeks.
As the case continues to unfold, the Attorney-General’s review of the docket will determine the next legal actions. Authorities say they are committed to a thorough and fair investigation to ensure justice is served.
“We are working closely with the relevant institutions to get to the bottom of this case. The public can be assured that justice will be pursued,” an official close to the investigation said.
