Acclaimed Ghanaian music producer Jam Master Jay (JMJ) has tipped Kojo Blak as the overwhelming favourite for the Best New Artiste award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), describing the category as one with little to no real competition.

Speaking on the Afternoon Show on TV3, monitored by entertainment journalist Joseph Owusu Worae, JMJ downplayed the strength of the field, pointing to Kojo Blak’s exceptional talent, growing influence, and strong audience appeal.

“I don’t foresee a competition there… the skill and the talent that Kojo Blak has, for me is top notch,” he stated.

The veteran producer went a step further to reveal a personal working experience with the rising star, disclosing that they have an unreleased collaboration he believes could easily become a major hit if made public.

“I sent him a beat, he recorded on it and sent it back. If I release that song today, it will be the next big thing,” JMJ hinted, underscoring his confidence in the artiste’s hit-making ability.

Adding his voice to the conversation, entertainment journalist Edem Mensah-Tsotorme echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing Kojo Blak’s consistency and strong run within the year under review.

According to him, while some emerging artistes struggle to sustain momentum after an initial breakthrough, Kojo Blak has managed to remain visible and relevant through strategic collaborations and back-to-back releases.

He cited the artiste’s impressive list of collaborations with top-tier acts such as Sarkodie, Kelvyn Boy, OliveTheBoy, and KiDi as clear evidence of his growing industry relevance and acceptance.

Edem Mensah further pointed to the widespread success of ‘Excellent’, one of Kojo Blak’s standout records, which has secured multiple nominations across major categories including Best Music Video, Best Afrobeats Song, Best Collaboration, and Most Popular Song.

Beyond the numbers, industry watchers say Kojo Blak’s rise reflects a combination of consistency, originality, and cross-market appeal — qualities that align strongly with the TGMA’s definition of a Best New Artiste, which recognises the most promising emerging act with the highest audience appeal and a breakthrough body of work within the year under review.
