Deputy Director of A-Rocha Ghana, Daryl Bosu, has questioned President Mahama’s commitment to the fight against small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey.

President John Dramani Mahama, in an engagement with the media in Accra on Wednesday, September 10, said, “I’ve been reluctant to implement a state of emergency in the galamsey fight because we’ve not exhausted the powers we even have without a state of emergency.

Reacting to this on 3FM Sunrise with Helen Appiah-Ampofo, Mr. Bosu described the President’s responses as demoralising and disappointing.

“President Mahama seems not to inspire confidence that he will fight the menace and appears not to appreciate the crisis the country is facing. Does he want us to all die before he declares the state of emergency as promised?” Daryl Bosu questioned.

He also added that “the explanation for not declaring a state of emergency is disappointing, given that the President in opposition promised to declare war on the menace.”

Investigative journalist Manaseeh Azure Awuni and other stakeholders have equally expressed their disappointment in the NDC government’s effort in bringing an end to the old-aged canker.
