Gospel sensation, Nacee, has reiterated his call for the ultimate in the 2023 VGMA’s to go to a gospel artiste, specifically, Piesie Esther.

According to the ‘Attention’ hitmaker, nobody in the industry deserves the award better than Piesie Esther, considering how Ghanaians resonated with her ‘Wayɛ me Yie‘ since it was released.

In an exclusive with OnuaOnline Friday, May 5, 2023, Nacee indicated the number of shows an artiste plays outside of his/her home country is not a determinant of winning the Artiste of the Year but rather how well a song does and reigns in the country of origin.

“Piesie released a monster hit so she deserves it. Until three weeks ago when ‘Aseda‘ took over, her song has led the top chart for the past 11 months. And winning Artiste of the Year is not about the number of shows one plays outside the country but how well the song does at home,” he indicated.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian entertainment pundit and artiste manager, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as BullGod, has also said a gospel artiste will not win the ultimate prize this year, amidst the massive campaign for Piesie Esther.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Friday, Bullgod predicted that Black Sherif or Stonebwoy will emerge as the winner.

He argued that a secular artiste deserves to win the award this year, and no matter how hard the campaign for gospel musicians is, it won’t make a difference.

“This year, if you look at the works of Stonebwoy, Black Sherif, we will not allow any gospel artiste to win. The Church of Pentecost, Church of Presby, and Anglican can all join they will not win. We are with the world, and everyone in the world is with Lucifer. This is Lucifer against God, and God understands that we will win,” he added.

The annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards ceremony will take place today, Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.

Alongside Black Sherif and Piesie Esther, the other nominees for the Artiste of the Year award include Stonebwoy, King Promise, Camiddoh, Kidi, Sarkodie, and Joe Mettle.

The VGMA is Ghana’s biggest music awards night, and these eight nominees will be hoping to take home the top award.
